University Application/Personal Statement
For this specific task, I've decided to complete a university application, as well as a rough draft of my own personal statement to go along with it.
I used this site provided by the blog site which is on this UCAS website for info and guidance, which I found useful as it provided things for finding the right things to implement in my personal statement and what I should go for.
I also used these notes I got from assistance, which is a basic guide and questioner as to that things I should say and were I should put it on the page which I found extremely useful.
Personal Statement Notes:
Making a list of my positive qualities that I can implement. Things like 2D animating, as well as others like being time conservative, working hard, and having a wide imagination.
For this, I decided to make a first basic draft of my personal statement for this task, I don't consider it to be my final product. I plan to make more drafts in the future, most of which I don't think I'll implement onto this website, but on another site in general.
-
I like 2D animations and animating because I find it fun and beautiful to bring something to life. Anything alive for that matter. And how simple it can be. By taking a simple canvas, and just projecting all your imagination and thoughts onto, can actually become something that people will be interested in watching.
-
I like displaying my emotions and thoughts into my projects, its fun, but I often don't get it right which is something I need to improve on.
-
I like drawing with 2D animation more than 3D, and CGI, because i feel that its more organic natural, which I like in films.
-
I'm committed. When I have a project that is due, I aim to complete it in time at its best quality.
-
I'm tend to be very meticulous, which has its pro's and con's, in my opinion. Often, I like something I make to be perfect and so I spend double the time any other person would to get that task finished at the right quality for myself. For all things like animation but also with my writing skills and evaluation.
-
I have some experience with multiple various media programs like adobe's Animate, Effects, Premier, and Photoshop, all of which is useful for making animated media and films. But I have to admit, I could be more experienced in these areas to fully exploit there uses.
My Personal Statement
Draft 1
The reason I’m applying for this course is because of recently, I’m interested in the subject of 2D animation.
I like the thought of being able to create a living thing so easily. Being able to project my ideas and emotions onto it, a producing something beautiful. Just by taking a simple pen and paper, or this case, digital canvas, and getting to work with drawing.
I like the process of it all, the technique and construction. Creating the fun and unique motion of the characters, and general content on the screen. To make a flowing motion with all the content on the scene, it’s all so satisfying. And it has a unique quality and texture to it that I can’t find in any other visual media.
I have a lot of experience in this visual media that can contribute to the 2D animation industry. With making a basic animation procedure of a walk cycle and bouncing object, and all the summitry and physics that go behind it, but I can still improve enormously in this subject, which is one of the main reasons I want to apply for this course, with learning more refined and detailed animation techniques.
I have always had experience in this area of work, with making frame by frame videos. Throughout the years of my life, starting when I was young, I used to make stop motion animations with basic resources like play dough, toys and other models, all of which requires and theme of the frame by frame animation, which I feel that I’ve contributed into my new skills in 2D animation.
In terms of achievements and attendants I’ve done, a couple of years ago, I competed and won the Golden Morph competition in 2019, for the under sixteens. As well as attending a BFI film academy animation camp by Calling the Shots, also in 2019, which gave me more experiences in the areas of the stop motion animation, which I applied to my 2D animation skills. I’m also proud of my first FMP project I did in my 120 media course at my current collage, where I made a 2D animated short film that I liked the outcome of.
I have various skills in animation as well as other practical skills that I find to be useful for this subject. I can work in areas of 2D animation like full body line drawing and character motion. Other skills include being able to evaluate and research on the work I’ve done, to describe what I’ve done good and what I think I can do better, which is a skill I’ve displayed really well in my FMP project for making that film.
I can work in all forms of 2D animation, like line drawing, which correlates into full body animation as well. I’m passionate about animation and in my drawing skills, and I import this passion very well into my animation, in their style and theme, to make unique and beautiful videos. I want to improve on these skills vastly, to create even better quality animations in less time, which is why I’m applying to this course.
In the end, I hope to find a job and career in 2D animation at any studio that invests in this visual media, like the companies that worked on the Netflix film “Klaus”, Sergio Pablos Animation Studios. Or this new film called “Wolfwalkers”, which was animated by this Irish studio, Cartoon Saloon.
As said above, this is just my first draft of my personal statement, and I plan to make multiple more in the future until I get the perfect one and submit it on my UCAS application.
I plan to work in more detail on each paragraph, looking at more online sources for guides on how to make this better. As well as working with other tutors and general assistance to figure out what exactly I want to say and how to put it down on paper.
For now, I don't know what to make of this draft. I think I've done the best I can in expressing my interests for the 2D animation industry well enough, and selling myself enough to get the receiver interested. Which is why I'll seek more assistance in the future for this and I wont work alone.
My Personal Statement
Draft 2
After displaying my first draft to one of my suporters, I then got some feedback on the general quality of it, and she gave me some minor details in the original draft that I should change. I then applied these changes to the draft to produce this second personal statement.
The reason I’m applying for this course is because I am very interested in the subject of 2D animation.

I enjoy creating the fun and unique motion of the characters, and general content on the screen, as well as making a flowing motion with all the content on the scene. It has a unique quality and texture to it that I can’t find in any other visual media. However, having said that, I am also willing to learn a new media, specifically 3D animation, because I understand the importance of it in today's industry.
I have a lot of experience in this visual media that can contribute to the 2D and 3D animation industry. With making a basic animation procedure of a walk cycle and bouncing object, and all the symmetry and physics that go behind it, but I can still improve enormously in this subject. This is one of the main reasons I want to apply for this course: to learn more refined and detailed animation techniques. I have had experience in this area of work, with making frame by frame videos. Throughout the years of my life, starting when I was young, I used to make stop motion animations with basic resources like play dough, toys and other models, all of which requires the theme of the frame by frame animation, which I feel has contributed into my new skills in 2D animation. I can also organise my time well, as well as completing tasks to deadlines.
In terms of achievements and attendance, I competed and won the Golden Morph competition in 2019, for the under sixteens. In addition, I attended a BFI film academy animation camp called "Calling the Shots", also in 2019. I’m also proud of my first FMP project I did in my 120 media course at my current college, where I made a 2D animated short film that I liked the outcome of. Furthermore, I came second in a summer BlueZoo Animation Studios competition. Due to Covid restrictions, I am still unable to collect the prize, which is a guided tour of the studios.
I have various skills in animation as well as other practical skills that I find to be useful for this subject. I can work in areas of 2D animation like full body line drawing and character motion.
