Professional Development Plan
A - One to One Progression Discussion
Having a small progression discussion with my current media teacher to talk about my progressive plan and what I should do in order to get onto the right path to get into the 2D animation industry in the future.
Focusing on the subjects of Short, Medium, and Long term goals.
Short Term:
For my short term plan, for the thing that my teacher advised, was that if I'm still interested in my studies here at my current collage, I need to focus on completing all the units and tasks for this current course, in year 2, up to the next FMP (which means from now to January), were all my experiences and goals will contribute to the quality of my final major project.
The quality of the outcome for these unites should be high create a good grade. I'm aiming for Distinction for all of them, with a Merit being the minimum that I want to achieve. They have to meet the same criteria of grade of my previous project and tasks, which also turned out to be the majority of Distinctions and Merits, which is another thing my teacher advised as this is what's going to get me good in the future, for my animation carrier.
Medium Term:
For my mid term, as described by the teacher, mainly resolves around my final major project for this year and this entire course. And the things I need to focus on the most are what are relevant to my next course and career, and it's best to constantly think and plan this across the time of this course. Integrating all the things I'll be learning and gaining experience from as I go.
Of course, the main thing I want to do will involve 2D animation. I did a 2D animated short film for my last FMP last year, which turned out ok. So I want to try and make something different, a product that has the same theme but in an area that I haven't tried yet, (but one I can get familiar with). Some of things I'm considering is making a short game, that involves 2D animated visuals, so for things like the background and the avatars movements I'll animate and import onto the game program itself.
Long Term:
For the long term plan, this part of my life is chosen by myself, whether I want to go to university or apply to some free lance jobs and or apprenticeships that involves animation in any way.
After I complete my FMP and the entire course itself at the end of the year, with the grade, I plan to apply to a university in the country that provides a good education in 2D animation, to improve on my skills and gain experience.
After which I then plan to go to a large animation studio to participate in making 2D animations for films and other products.
B - Detailed Plan of Potential Career Path
Making a detailed plan and graph of each step and task I plan to do for my "short, mid and long term" plan. I took examples from the design on the media hub blog, and used the online website to actually design the graph below, which I actually found useful.
In general, there were some things and liked about the outcome of this graph, but some others and think could be improved on.
In honesty, I don't know a lot about the options I have in the future that follow through into becoming an animator. I was mainly basing the steps off my own initiative and experience of the things going on in the world and the opportunities available to me, (most of which are things i learnt in my previous year at collage, working on my future studies). So I don't feel like my plan is that full proof, and too general.
I think the only way to improve on this is to continue studying at this collage and gaining more experience in this area of the world, and apply it to my future plan.
