Film Scene Ideas

For the first thing for my preproduction, as I was working on other sections of work for this project, I did some brain storming and came up with sorts of scenes I imagined would be in the short film. Not like a story board, just ideas of the sorts of patterns and actions the characters would do when and produce in the film, so like detailed sections/parts of the story board without the rest of it thought through yet. I just felt that I needed to put these ideas done on paper before I forgot them, because I found that I liked the look of them and would want to implement them into my final film.

I drew this one first as it was the first idea that came to me from the others. 

It's a scene during the rise in climax section of the film, before the main protagonist encounters the antagonist, where he's just minding his own business and displaying the wide range of colours and patterns that practically erupt from him. 

In this particular scene, an energy ball (that came from a random location, I didn't that far back) explodes in the sky in a display of patterns and shapes, like the one at the end of my second test animation in my Research page on this website, and then all the particles around the shapes and the explosion start falling to the ground (like broken debris from a meteorite or space shuttle) in wavy streaks, also like in the second test animation. All the streaks then hit the ground in multiple small explosions of sparks, these explosions then start to continue down in a strait orderly fashion, one opposite each other, with the main character starting to run down beside the continues explosions in a visually epic looking scene, as if he were running down a runway at a concert or something, with confetti cannons going off on either side of his as he runs, but more fast pace and awesome looking. And the ending of this scene will end with a front view of the character with him then jumping in the air in a dramatic, 3D slow motion effect, with bigger explosions going off behind him.  

The reason I like this idea is because it displays a lot of qualities of the types of the theme and styles I want to implement into my final animation: With it generally having a fast pace motion through out, especially with the main character running. With the explosive displays of patterns and shapes (as well as the colours even though there aren't any in this design, I plan for there to be). And with the strong 3D feel to the animation, by showing multiple scenes and angles of the main character running through the chaos.

One of the main reasons I find that I like about this plan the most is the transition at the beginning of the from the firework explosion and how the patterns and shapes of that display then turn naturally into another scene where they are now displaying something another form of visual entertainment. And I think that these sorts of movements, where one scene and its content transitions into another scene with different movements, are one of the main things that will make the film visually appealing for the viewers and make them enjoy it more.

This is the next idea plan I had had in mind from my ideas.

This particular scene takes place after the peak climax in the film, when the gelatinous form of the antagonist attacks the protagonist character and hurts him, but then he gets back up again and start to counter attack the antagonist. This is one of the imagined scenes I had in mind as how the main character would do this to the black gelatinous creature. 

This scene is strongly enforced again by the theme of a fast moving and exhilarating pace. Where the character at the beginning of this scene comes swooping in from the side after running from something behind him, presumably the dark force (like the one above, I didn't think that far back), and then he starts running ahead, away from the screen towards a tendril shaped versions of the dark force that can be seen in the distance. The tendril coils, like a snake and then tries to hit the protagonist in front of it, which at the same time the character jumps above its attack and fly's over the long, stretch out form of the dark force in a sort of spinning acrobatic move. As he's gliding, the main character puts a hand on the surface of the tendril to sort of steady himself as he glides along it, this then makes a bright streak along the area of which the character is holding, this streak is sort of transforming the tendril into the shapes and colours that where associated with the protagonist at the beginning of the film. This scene is sort of resembling this sort of theme of the metabolism of the dark force is a disease, and the main character is curing it with is physical touch, turning the dark force good, and into multiple shapes and colours as said before, that resemble the ones around the main character at the beginning. 

The reason I like this idea for a scene is for the same reason as the idea above, for its fast pace and for its smooth transitions and movements, from the character and also generally the scene itself. How the protagonist moves down the tendril, like a slide almost, and I love the idea of that kind of fluent movement, and I want to implement it into the film.

This design was purely made as an example of the generic movements that I plan for the main character to do during the film. All of them basically resemble basic ballerina possess and movements, from which all the pattern and colour effects will basically generate from, mostly depending of the types of actions that he does. So for the example below, his movements are fluent and they flow like water, so most of the patterns will resemble water, alongside other shapes to keep the feel of the animation original and new all the times. While other movements like the ones the character does in the designs above, are more explosive and exciting to look at.

Although, these posses displayed above are ideas that just came off the top of my head from previous experience I used to see in my life from television and live plays. 

So think I'll do some further research into the types of actions that an actual ballerina does and how I could incorporate them into my final film.

This idea mainly originated from the simple design idea I made for my research on colour theory on my Research page. A scene based around a display of a particular emotion and action, the feeling of mischief and playfulness.

Its meant to be only a short scene in the entire animation but during the rise in climax section, before the encounter with the antagonist, but I still thought it was worth getting down on paper as it adds a particular unique and fun quality in the film that I personally like and that the viewers will like as well. Its where an energy ball that the character created suddenly seems to grow a separate conscious and plays around the character in a mischievous way, making the character have to follow him around until it stops circling him and the character and viewers get a better look of the energy ball. I find that this sort of scene will really add to the various other scenes in the film that each have their own unique, important aspect to add to film in terms and emotions, more specifically the emotions of joy, which is also another aspect of the film that I want to mainly focus on during the procedure. This one one being mischief as stated multiple times above.

This last design plan I made is another basic scene during the rise in climax, just before the scene where the antagonist gets introduced in the film. 

Its supposed to be a scene that generally displays how the protagonist displays his emotions in the form of the patterns and shapes he's evidently making an effort to produce, as he makes posses as if he's trying to through the energy in different areas above him, with one final action of him building up his strength (by the looks of it) and then releasing it a huge and epic display of the same patterns and colours.

I like the look of this scene as it displays another method at which the character produces the colours and patterns I'm aiming to focus on the most for this film. Instead of the patterns appearing in a natural fashion as I described for some of the scenes above, the main character is actually physically trying to create them. Which I also find is another great scene in the film where the protagonists emotions are at there prime state, and then a perfect place for the antagonist to get introduced, to completely counter the emotions of the protagonist, thus setting the turning point of the emotional state of the film from good the bad. 

I also think that this idea could be an example for some of the other actions that the main character will do during the film. With a bit more of an acrobatic style to them, but using the same forceful actions with the hands to produce the bright content.

These are only just a few of the ideas I have for how I want the final film to play at like, I'll brain storm some and come up with some more scene I like and would want in the final film, and then make an assessment on which scenes I like the most and where they would fit the best in the time frame of the entire film, eventually coming to produce a detailed story board for the final film. 

Character Design 

In this task, I decided to make a page on photoshop with a quick character design to display and clarify the type of characters I will use for when I make the final film and why.

For this page, I made a couple of designs on different aspects of the character design I thought of in my mind and afterwords, how I would make a decision as to which of the designs I like the most. Focusing on things like what different facial features I thought of implementing, how I would animate the character clothing and what kinds of colours I would use. 

For the face and the head of the character (and specifically the hair), I thought of going for a masculine, older looking face with a specific hair style as displayed above and to the left, and I don't exactly know why I thought of this design or where the influence came from, I just thought of this particular design because it looked nice to me. One thing I did think of in detail was the hair stye, as it can be animated to can flow during the film like his clothes, to greater increase the feel of his movement, when he's in the air or running, and to look more fluent and satisfying for the viewers. I thought of going for this simple drawn style that doesn't include a lot of detail so it won't be a difficult to animate when making the final film.

I came up with three different designs I liked for his general head style, including the one in the big example above. Where his hair is made in a different style, purely for a different and unique character model, and also (for this style in particular) because I think it looks cool. 

I also had this idea of adding glasses to it, to give it a more friendly look, which is what is meant to be displayed in the film strongly. But looking at it now, I don't really think it fits for the theme of the film, and doesn't really mean anything important, so I found there was really no point. 

For or the hair bun design, I like the look of it, but I also like the look of the first hair style in the example above and in my previous drawn designs as well. It contributes more to the theme of the animation that I'm aiming to go for, with its flying motion, so I think I'll stick with the original for making the final film.

For these designs, I wanted to make an example of how the clothing and hair would be animated for the film and how they would be represent the motion of the characters movements. 

The way I planned to display this motion of the character, as he's moving or flying through the air, was have him wearing a simple loose fitting shirt so when he does move in any direction, I would animate it so that it fly's loosely around his body as displayed by the example to the left, also because it fits the simple design of the character. Another display of this, as already stated above, is the character long hair which will also move in the same way. The character also has a pare of jeans (I imagine he will be wearing) which are more tightly fit so it wont move as much in the same way, but I didn't want to consider implementing a loose fitting trousers, as it would fit with the rest of his cloths design.  

I also considered to implement another piece of clothing, a scarf, on the character which will be used to greatly display the motion of the character when I do the animation, as displayed in the example. This could also be a fun object to do when animating. 

But when I look at it now, I realise that it doesn't suit the characters models and his clothes, it looks too random and out of place compared to the other clothes he's wearing, so I'll stick with the design I already have.

For this last design, I wanted to make an example of the types of colours I would use for the character design and when. 

Generally the colour I plan to use for the character is basic black, with its line drawing, and having the space in the character filled with basic white. 

For some scene in the film, I plan for the background colour to change from white to black. not just for the scene that will display the mood of the scene when the antagonist comes in, (that will come later in the film) but also to give those scene a new sort of ominous feel to it that will also make the colours I'll use for them stand out a lot more so and give the audience a different feel for them. For this scene, I plan to change the outline colour of the main character as of coarse, he won't be seen in these scenes otherwise. My first initial thought was white, not just because it was the first obvious choice to with, but I also found that it was a nice colour scheme for the character. But then i also thought of implementing different colours to be more creative and interest the viewers more. I liked the look of this cyan colour for personal reasons and also, its one of the colours that stands out the most. 

I think I'll alternate the colour scheme of the character during the film. To make the character more interesting during the film. These colours could also mimic the types of moods that the character is feeing during them, as well as the patterns and colours that will produce from him.

I also made quick design sheet for the basic look of the antagonist I planned for when it appear in the film. 

As I stated before, and as shown in the many example I made in previous work, I planned that the antagonist doesn't have a solid, stable continues model like the protagonists shown in the example above. Instead, it appears as a sort of mass of black sludge and goo, that moves and moulds itself like a living thing. Which I find is the perfect type of theme and style for this animation film, and fits with the rest of the genre of the film, with the patterns and colours that will be displayed by the protagonist. 

This character is supposed to display the opposite emotions and feelings from the protagonist, which inhibits joy and happiness, this antagonist inhibits the feelings of fear and hate and anger, which is displayed by its dark and scary features that the audience would consider to be evil, and so would distinguish the positions of this creature in the film easily. Features such as the black colour scheme mixed with red highlights which I find to be an exceptional colour combination for evil antagonist. As well as rough protrusions and ominous looking eyes, all to increase the horror aspect of the design, and all the typical tropes for characters in horror films and film posters.

As said above, the basic structure of this character when I animate in this film will be a basic fluent, snake like creature that moves around in the film scene in the same way, engaging with the protagonist in a volatile and vicious manner. 

Some examples of this type of movement that I can come up with is like the symbiot creature in the "Marvels Venom" film and comics, where the black mass moves and shape-shifts in a gooey like fashion. 

Another comes from this video game I used to play called "Gris" which has a similar protagonist model, a liquid like creature, which is the closest example of what I want to replicate for my animation film.

On the original snake like model of the antagonist, there will be various protrusions and spines coming out on the outside of the snake model. As well as various intense and freaky looking eyes and pupils, too increase the scary and terror theme of the antagonist, which is what its trying to present in the film, compared to the protagonists positive attitude. 

And the protrusions are meant to be used as the main weapon to which this character uses to attack the protagonist with and injure him with especially.

Other various characters that I plan to appear in the film are the bird animal as shown in the scene ideas sketches above and some form of a school of fish. All that are random characters that I don't really think need a certified design to show what kind of design they have, as the design will most likely be randomised during the scenes in the film, and will only appear for short amounts of time in the film. 

The reason I thought of these second characters was to add a bit more creativity to the story and to the protagonist, as if these animals will represent as his friends in the film. 

For the basic structure of the bird, I planned to be pretty simple and strait forward with minimal complicated details as to make it harder to animate when I do animate it for the final film. 

I plan to animate this character in the same sort of way I did the bird in my last test animation, focusing on the basic oval body of it and the pointy head at first, and then focusing of the wings by just drawing the outline of the wing where the birds muscles would be and then just use hatch drawing to make the feather looking effect on the ends of the wings.

After I made the initial models of the bird, I started to play around with different colours, implementing them into the colour scheme of the different models, finding which one I liked the best. And in honesty, I like the look of all of them. Their colour combinations are really satisfying to look at and I think will look even better when animated. So I think I might want to try and implement all these designs into the final animation if I can, changing the colour of the bird depending on the mood of the scene. 

For the school of fish design, planned for it to look like a streak of energy like the ones in my second test animation, but this time, the inside of that streak is filled with a detailed symmetry that acts like the shape of a fish (rectangular in this case) fitting together like a puzzle. And I plan that the closest fish towards the screen will have more details in them, like small scales and eyes to symbolise that they are in fact fish during the film.

Like for the bird design sheet above, I made versions of this design with different colours to test and see which colour pallet would look the best with it for the final film.

And for my preference, I really like the look of the cyan coloured version of the school, because it looks soothing in a way and, as well as the deep blue colour version, resembles the theme of the ocean.

Sourced Music

For the next task I did in this pre production work, I decided to look and source some music I would use for the background of the final film.

 

I plan to find/create a music file which I plan to have this particular theme throughout it which resembles the mood change and basic theme of a three act structured film, which will then base the events of film around. Like the same way the events in the film "Fantasia" play out, with the motions of the characters and the mood of the different scenes are displayed in the tunes of the music in the background. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So at the beginning, there will be a rise in climax with the action in the music and for my film, so at this part the protagonist is displaying his emotions with the various colours that i planned in the Scene Ideas designs above. The music at this point is meant to reflect that emotion by being happy and joyous in a way.

Then halfway in the rise of climax section, the antagonist gets introduced, and displays its emotions in the film, the opposite of the other characters which is dark and scary and fearful, the music in this scene is the same. All the tension in this scene still rising until the first peak of the climax, where the protagonist gets hurt by the antagonist, and then the mood of the film changes and drops to being sad and depressing as the protagonist stays stationary and hurt, with there being very low audible music to match the scene.

After that point, when the climax lowers a bit, it then rises again as the character gets up from his injuries and starts to fight back against the protagonist until the second peak of the action when the protagonist defeats the antagonist character. This scene in the film will have similar music to the beginning, reflecting the joyous and epic mood of the protagonist and of the display in the scene. 

this sort of structure of the film motion is based off the typical three act structure i've used as an example for previous projects and in my proposal page. With the basic rise and fall with the action in the film, but this time with a slight alteration, with a stationary section in the film to act as the scene when the character gets hurt, until it picks up again until the antagonist is defeated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I planned to collect a variety of different music for the different moods that would be displayed in the film, the happy parts and scary parts, and then import them into an audio editing software so i can edit them together and produce a sound track that would fit the film structure idea shown above. I'm thinking of using the Adobe Audition software as its the only professional software i know that can edit music and sounds at good efficiency.   

 

 

 

 

 

For this task, i went to a website i used to use to find and source music for another personal project in the past. A website called Artlist. It's a useful website that provides a lot of different, free, and royalty music that can be dowloaded and used for any project. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I particularly like this program for its categorising feature, which always me to select the specific types of genres i'm looking for to implement into my final film, and then it provides me with a selection of tunes that should have the tone and feeling as the selected genres, all for me to browse. 

All of which i can then add to a basket in the program and then have it downloaded to me in my personal gmail account, which i can then download as a specific formate and use for my film. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I started with first looking for positive, good feeling music which will be used for the scenes with the protagonist when he's displaying his positive emotions with the patterns on the screen and the movements of them as well. 

For specific details, the options i chose for this were for the Mood to be, uplifting, exciting, happy and hopeful (as displayed below). All emotions i thought would be suitable for the protagonists scenes in the film. For the Genre setting, i also chose cinematic, as thats supposed to be one of the main themes of this entire film. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After browsing on Artlist for a bit, i then decided to have a look for music on YouTube, to get a variety of different sourced music and sounds all to collaborate when editing them in the adobe software. But i didn't like the sounds of the music i found under the same category as the ones on Artlist, they just didn't feel as organic and natural compared to the ones i found on Artlist. So i decided to disregard these tunes and solely focus on the tunes i found on the other website, mainly to limit options so i don't get overloaded with so many tunes to choose from and it ending up confusing me as to which tune sounds the best for the film scene. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After i found a selection music that i thought was suitable, i went onto looking for music and tunes for the antagonists sections in the film to display its movement and mood, which is meant to be the opposite theme of the protagonists, dark, scary and thrilling. 

For this, i specifically chose in the Mood section, angry, scary and dark (i did also choose sad, but decided against it as it wasn't quite what i was looking for.

 

 

After everything, i came up with a selection of music that i thought would be viable for my final film. I will then implement these ideas into the Adobe program and put them together in a way in which it sounds like a story is being told without the visuals.

Sourced Music Problems 

Unfortunately, I ran into a big problem with these specific tunes I chose for from the Artlist website which made it so I couldn't use them to make the sound track for the final film. 

When I did download them from my shopping basket on the website, and retrieved them from my email account, they turned out to be have bits of audio in them which disrupted the music in them and I couldn't edit them out. The reason for this that I can think of is the version of the Artlist website is only a test and try out version, and to download the music I wanted without this disruption I would have to pay for the website. I did not take this into account when I decided to use it, I thought the version I was using was a free version, and the music it presented was a part of it and they were free for me to use.

This is a major set back for me as I really liked the tunes I found on this site and I thought they would fit well for the background in my film. 

It took a moment to consider my options and decide what would be the best way to approach this situation, I asked for some assistance from the family members in this approach.

I considered temporarily buying the license on Artlist to download the same music again, this time without the worry of the copyright issues and it wont have the bits of audio in it so I could use it make the background music, and then I could then cancel the license to prevent spending any more money. But my family members advised against it as it wouldn't be that simple and would cause fantail problems for me later down the line.

So we decided to move away from trying to retrieve the original music and then started to search on the internet for alternative music websites for to use to find music i like and can implement into making the track. I came across a couple of sites on the internet that provided a list of different music websites that i could look at and use for finding music. Site 1, Site 2. Music Website 1, Music Website 2, Music Website 3, Music Website 4, Music Website 5.

in honesty, i didn't really like the websites that were available, on the lists. i didn't find the tunes they had to offer that interesting and original and as cool as the ones i found on Artlist. 

At this point, i found i had two options for overcoming this problem at the minute. 

One option has to do with this music website i had had my eyes on for a while. It was a site called Epidemic Sound, it looked like a professional website which i could use to resource the tunes i had. The thing that caught my eye the most about the website was its free trial for users, and i was thinking that maybe i could try and do the same thing i was going to try and do for the Artlist website and use that website temporarily to find the music again, and download them without the concern of copyright issues and then they wont have the bits of audio in them, and then afterwards, cancel the subscription to the Website as to avoid spending money on it after the free trial has ended.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The other option if that didn't work out, was to just go back onto the YouTube and find some royalty free music that is at the least similar to my original music and then just settle for that for making the background track. 

I don't plan to focus on this task for much more time than i have to as i want to continue on with the other tasks i had planned for the pre production and general production of this FMP film.

Film Final Story Board

After I found and sourced the music from Pandemic and YouTube, as shown above, I moved away from looking for music for the time being and made a final story board idea for the final film which has all the details and scenes I plan for there to be in the final film.

I planned for the story board to be a lot more descriptive then normal, covering the events of each scene in more detail as I did some brain storming before hand and I final had a clear idea of the story for the film in my head, with including the previous scene ideas I made at the beginning this pre production page, and I wanted to get it all down before I forgot it. 

This task turned out to be a lot more tedious than I thought it would. It took a lot longer to complete than I would have liked, but I met a few roadblocks along the way and I had trouble figuring out how particular scenes I imagined in the film to turn out and I had to rethink some of the scenes as well. All taking a considerably long amount of time, which I had hopped to use for other practical tasks for this pre production stage of the project, like finding more music and familiarising myself with the program I would use to make the animation. 

Also, due to the detail I wanted to add in the story boards, I ended up making a lot of story boards to satisfy the story scenes I had in mind.

In this first story board, the scenes display the first act of the film with the introduction of the main character just walking on the screen and minding his own business (I couldn't come up with any other original entrance to the film). The he begins to displays his emotions in beginning scene by producing the various patterns and colours from his movements and just basically from his body.
The scenes play out with him stopping in his walking style, and then as displayed in scene 2, taking a deep breath, which will also be presented with colours and patterns as displayed above, just as a small taster and teaser, in a way, for the audience as for what's to come.


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Then in scene 6, some of the particular colour particles in the explosion start moving like multiple streaks in a much faster and crazier manner than the one before toward the ground. The mood of this scene is supposed to change to display a more jittery mood of the patterns and with the change in colour as well from before. 
Then in scene 7, the multiple streaks reach the ground and join, only to then jump and skip across the ground in again, a frantic frenzy manner.













I

n scene 9, the bird animal then bursts off flying across the scene in a mesmerising display for a few moments.

Then later in scene 10, the main character joins the bird character in the fast pace scene with him running and doing some more tricks and displaying more patterns and colours in the process. Until eventually jumping into the air in an epic scene with explosive like effects happening under him. 
This scene then smoothly transitions to scene 12, where the main character then seems to land on water as he falls and then begins to act as if he's surfing and with streaks following behind him and fish characters jumping around him. The background on the film in this scene turns to black as, for one, to add a bit of creativity in the film and to interest the viewers more so. This has many benefits I find as the black colour really expresses the other colours on the screen a lot and makes them more satisfying. Also, I think in some circumstances, the black colour can resemble water in some way.

Then in scene 3, he starts to do some basic and ballet moves and shown in the one scene ideas I made. With beginning of shapes and colours being presented around him, as sort of a warm up scene for what's to come later. 

Then in scene 4, he splays his hand out at the end of one of his moves, where a concentration of energy forms quickly and then, in scene 5, gets shot off into the air, in a fast paced scene, like the ones I did for my second test animation, and the scene follows the energy streak as it makes some of the same moves and action as the one in the test, with multiple explosion displays and with a final explosion with multiple different colours and patterns.

In scene 8, they reach they reach the main character and then start to play around him like displayed in the one scene idea I made before as I had planned, with the energy ball then exploding into a bird animal, this is supposed to symbolise the second character in a way, which acts as the main characters sort of friend and partner thought the film and will have more symbolic meaning later in the film.

For the next scenes I made in the next story board design, I started with making the next serious of scenes with the main character doing some moves and tricks as he's surfing with a final scene of the character jumping in the air as if doing another trick with an imaginary surf board under his feet to add more to the feel of the water surfing feel of this scene. 

At this point however, I had second thoughts of this ideas and decided against it, as I relied that so far this would be too many scenes in the film and would result in being too long for the film and too long for me to animate.

So I decided to cut it out entirely and instead implement this particular scene into the running scene from before with the main character running with the bird character and have the character doing some surfing moves in those short scenes before he jumps in the air again in the same sort of scene as before but altered to match the theme of the surfing scene, with the change in colours and some of the patterns as well.

After I patched the scenes in the last story board plan, I made another board and started working on the next scenes in the film. 

After the last scene in the last board where the main character jumps into the air in a dramatic display, in the first scene above, the character then drops at a fast pace towards the ground. 

Then in scene 2, the scene panes out far away from the character as he lands on the ground and then a large display of patterns then spread out on the ground from that point in a sort of dramatic display. 

After that, the camera zooms back towards the character as he gets up and for the next continues scene, from 3 to 6, follows the same scene idea I made beforehand as well, where the character is forcing more patterns out from his hands and displaying his joyful emotions at it most intense before the next scene. 

The next few scene follows the same scene idea plan I also made just before this story board actually, up until scene 10, where the main character is still happy but then its as if he senses something is wrong and then all the happiness he's displaying disappears and the tail of the introduced antagonist is present in the background, as displayed in scene 7 and 8 above, where the background colour is still black, but then changes to white, giving the feel and emotion to the viewers that the main character is somewhat snapping back into reality and all the patterns around him suddenly disintegrate as displayed.

Then in scene 9, the protagonist is looking around confused as to what's happening and what's disturbing him. 

And then in scene 10, the mass of the antagonist forms behind the main character, surprising him, which is actually a scene I got inspiration from this one YouTube animation I used as an example in my proposal page from before, where this sludge monster comes morphing out from the background in a fluent scary movement. I want to use this same motion for this two scenes 10 and 11. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then in scene 12, the mass of the antagonist shoots into the air and comes rushing down towards the protagonist and bird character.

In this next story board, in the next scene in the sequence, the main character and the bird dodge out of the way of the attack from the antagonist as it crushes the ground where they stood, sending the two main characters running from the scene.

The next scene, scenes 2 and 3, shows the two characters still running from the antagonist. In this scene, the background begins to change like it did in the first story board idea. This time with red veins as to display that the antagonist is in a way taking over the world around him and giving the feelings and emotions of fear to the audience. 

In scene 4, where the entire area around the character has been enveloped in the darkness and the characters are still trying to run away, but then the scene shows as their running, a wall of spikes appears in-front of the characters, stoping them in there path, and then they try to move in the other directions but then get stopped again by another wall (the second wall isn't displayed in the board but I plan for it to be in the film). 

Then in scene 5, with the main characters trapped in place by the walls, tendrils of the antagonist appear around them and then rush towards the main protagonist, draping around him and creating a sort of small dome, as displayed in scene 6 and 7, with the bird character getting knocked aside in the process, and injuring him in the process.

Then scene 8 displays a dramatic view of the inside of the dome which is covered in scary and menacing looking veins and eyes that are looking down on the main character.

Then the next scene, scene 9, the main character then gets barraged by spines which impale the main character and hurt badly, as displayed in scene 10. 

In this section of the film, mood becomes sad and helpless as the main character just stands there, injured and unable to pick himself up. As he's kneeling there, he's also trying to holding himself, this is trying to resemble how he's trying to stop himself from being consumed by the darkness thats covering him, as if he's trying to saver the last of his original emotions and general characteristics in a sorrowful and pitiful state.

But then, in scene 12, when all seems lost at this point in the film, the bird character appears in the seen, having burrowed into the side of the dome and into the inside, as displayed by the sort of puncturing effect displayed in the final scene.

For the next scene, when the bird character gets into the dome, in scene 1 above, it then starts to try and get to the injured character by in a weak and delicate manner as if it too has been badly injured and also has reformed into a blob like substance for no vital reason, its still supposed to symbolise the main characters friend, just in a different form. When it reaches the character it stays stationary for a while as the main character looks down at it with sadness and helplessness.

Then in the scene 2, with the energy blob still in from of the character, tendrils from the antagonist then start to circle the blob with the intent to consume it like they are trying to do with the main character, the blob is oblivious to this fact and doesn't try move out the way, as it also doesn't have the strength to anyways. 

But then in scene two, the main character notices this is about to happen and then desperately reaches out and blocks the tendrils from the blob, disregarding his own state in the matter. He then cups the blob in his hands and covers it tightly in his hands. Then in scene 4, the tendrils around the blob then act more aggressive in a way, and try it burrow its way into the main characters hands to get to the blob, this greater hurts the main character but he still stays strong in this stage, regarding his own safety for his friends. Because of this, he is no longer able to protect himself from the other tendrils and darkness around him from consuming him, until eventually in scene 5, where the camera pans out to a wide view of the character as he becomes completely consumed and then there's a blank scene with nothing for a few moments.

Until suddenly in scene 7, where there's is a little spark in the distance of the screen and then the main character reappears in the on the screen with in a small section of light, still holding onto the blob in front of himself and free of his injures with the spine on his back. (at this point the quality of the drawings in the story boards have been reduced as I wanted to finish off these story boards more quickly to save time)

Then in the scene 8, the main character looks around confused for a second and the looks down at his opened hands and sees the blob in a state where it resembles the patterns and colours that the main character used before. He looks at it for a while in wonder and empathy, and then suddenly in scene 9, thrusts his had into the air, holding the patterns of the once blob in his hands in an epic scene which pans out and displays the main character in the middle and a large beam of energy, made from the same patterns a shapes used before, which then transforms the area around him and the general background back to white, to symbolise that the mood of the film has shifted back to being hopeful and with the protagonist being the victor. 

This whole sequence in the film is built around the theme of deeper meaning of an I deal I had during brainstorming about it, where basically the antagonist particularly is trying to take away the protagonists joyful emotions which make him stand out in a symbolic and literal way in the film, as the that does happen in the board above, he then becomes blent into the background and unable to be seen. And the sections where the protagonist is holding himself after he got attacked, resembles that he's trying to protect himself and his emotions from the darkness consuming him, and the bird character that gets introduced into this scene sort of resembles another character how is in the same sort of state and needs help. And then when the bird/blob is about to be consumed by the tendrils, the main character then tries to save and protect him, and completely disregards his own protections from the tendrils to do so, this then lets the tendrils consume him but he doesn't care, as now he's putting all of his attention and emotions on rather protecting his friend, as apposed to his emotions before where, in a way, he was only thinking about himself and his happy emotions and presenting them on the screen. 

All of this then leads to the initial safety and victory of the main character by the blob/bird he was protecting in his hands, as the blob absorbed the attention and, in a way, love from the main character, which then in turn created a force and energy more powerful then the antagonist in this film, and the main harasser uses to defeat the dark force. 

So I suppose this scene and initially the whole film is based around a narrative and plot from real life about the acts of selflessness and caring for others in life and how it can have benefits for yourself. 

After all that, in scene 11, the main character stands motionless for a second with a satisfied attitude, with more patterns and colours moving around him to display the same emotion. But then suddenly in scene 12, the antagonist returns to try and attack the character again, but this time the main character is able to fight back against him.

In this scene of the filmI intended for there to be one last epic scene where the main character combats the antagonist until eventually ending in an epic last move where the main character defeats of the antagonist for good. This will also incorporate the scene idea I made before hand at the beginning of this website page, to be used in this act of the film. But before I continued with it, midway through making it, I decided against it for the same reason as the last section I removed in the first story board idea, I figured this scene would be to long to animate with the rest of the animation in the film, so I decided to complete cut it from my original idea. This posed some problems as I didn't know how the ending scene should end.

So after a long time of brainstorming, I finally came up with an idea I at least thought would be shorter than the than the last idea I had and might be easier to animate as well. With altering the last few scenes in my previous story board above, so that now when the main thrusts his first into the air to make a huge ray of light that turns the entire background back to white, instead of there being a beam shooting out above him, there is instead a large flash of light with the same properties from the beam before, with the same patterns and colours, also as an example, like Iron mans propulsion beams in the Marvel films. (I plan to use that feature in a different sections of the film). 

And then in the last scene, instead of multiple tentacles advancing on the main character, there is just one large one.

Then in scene 4, the main character puts more effort into his attack and the beam of energy penetrates the antagonist attack as displayed above. This injures and inevitably destroys the antagonists form, as displayed in scene 5 and 6, the energy blast sort of runs down the antagonists form and destroys it from the inside, with more colours and shapes erupting from it at the same time. 

Then in scene 7, the scene shows a shot from behind the main character as the resulting explosion from the antagonist rushes towards him like the shock wave from a nuclear detonation. 

But this is meant to be taken as a good scene of the film, and in scene 8, it shows the main character not minding and letting himself being taken by the storm and then the entire screen turns white without any content and only a couple of particles of colour left behind by the wave. This is going to be the last scene of the entire film, with one last section after the ending where some of the particles on screen suddenly move together in a motion across the screen and together fabrication the title for the film and a cute scene of the film. And then eventually morph again and go off screen. 

This is the whole story idea I have planned when I make the final animation film, most of it at least. I'm hoping that I'll be able to animate all the scenes for the film before the deadline, but I'll cut some scenes from the film if need to.

I like the idea of this story so far, and I hope it will turn out the way I imagine it would in my head. 

Then in the first scene of this last story board I made, the character spins around in one last graceful ballet move and raises his hand towards the incoming attack, where a large source of colours and shapes congregate and concentrate before in the next scene, gets released in a large beam of energy like the one in the one scene in the board from before. Which then collides with the incoming attack from the antagonist. This scene lasts for a while displaying one last scene, scene 3, where shows a detailed scene of the main character and the light from the beam being displayed on his body. (this scene is also taken from the example of the famous super hero Iron Man from the Marvel film, where his propulsion that shoot from his hands)

Final Sourced Music

Before I went onto the actual production stage of this project, I decided to do one more search on the internet to look for more viable tunes for some certain parts to the film. More specifically the first sequence in the film, where the tune and the mood in happy and joyful. And for the second scene after that where the tune turns dark and scary. For the other scenes in this film, I found that I liked the tunes from the selection for those scenes that I had, but I didn't for the others scenes described above.

For this, I first went to youtube and searched under the qualities of the the moods I was looking for the happy and dark music. 

I searched for a long time through a lot of different separate songs, but I couldn't find any particular tunes that suite the style and theme I'm looking for. The examples of the type of music I was looking for are these two tunes I sourced on the previous website I looked at for music, Artilst. I liked these two particular songs for the positioning and layout of their notes and how they make me feel and how I would imagine they would make the viewers feel for the two scenes in the film I had planned for them to be in, for the happy tune and the dark tune. But I couldn't find any music on youtube that fit these same notes and feelings they invoke, for both the happy theme and the dark theme.

After that failed task, I then decided to take to the Epidemic Sound website instead, hopping that I would have a better chance at finding and sourcing music on this site instead. I also searched for a long time under the same qualities and categories as from youtube, and I still struggled to find some tunes which matched the same tunes as the examples above. 

But I did, however, find only two songs that I personally liked and thought would fit the films soundtrack (one for each scene, the happy and dark).

At this point, I figured I couldn't afford to put any more time into this particular task for this project and I needed to focus on the other tasks I have for the production stage, and that I'll have to make do with the music I have in my files.

Use of Animation Software -

Adobe Animate 

For clarification on the specific program I intend to use for this project, and why, is the adobe program known as Flash Animation, and has recently be renamed to just Animate. 

As i stated before in the research page and in my proposal, the reason i chose to use this program to animate the final film is because its the one that was the most well known to me. Whenever i watched an animation in youtube in the past, they always seemed to mention the adobe program sometime in the video or the film. And to me, it seemed to most professional looking program to use for 2D animation with high quality resolution and with lots of useful features which will be useful to me with some of the scenes I plan to animate in this film. One feature in particular i've seen being used a lot in other animations on youtube is a feature that lets you move an object on the screen and the program records that movement so when you play back over it, it moves on its own without having to draw any more frames in-between to make it move like you would do originally. 

I did some research on it and came across some simple tutorials that basically confirmed my theory on this feature on the program, which is called Tweening. 

I think, in honesty, this is the only reason why i want to use this program for the final animation than the one i already used for my personal hobbies and for making my previous animations, which is a program called Krita which i found (after doing some more insight to the layout of the adobe one) has a lot of the same features and general layout of the adobe one, except for the Tweening feature on the timeline.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I plan to exploit this feature in my animation for the scenes when some of the patterns that the protagonist create that go across the screen for a long duration of time, like smoke in the air, when it gets pushed, or the radius of a fire work, it has a fast momentum at the beginning but then slows down towards the end. This procedure would take me a long time to animate if i were to animate each individual frame like i have to do for my animations on Krita and for the previous test animations i've made with the same program. This time consumption would be troublesome when it comes to my final animation and i need all the time i can get.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So this feature, which I also know can not only move solid objects but can record the movement when you alter the objects general shape, which will be useful for making the continues wavy lines in the animation.

Adobe Animate Layout

 Krita Layout

This feature and also the generally layout of this program, i find to be pretty simple to navigate and use when i do get around to making the animation and i need to work with the various key-framing system and the new brush tools. As said before, this program has a lot of similar features to the Krita program, which i am comfortable using, so i'm confident that i'll make do with the features on the adobe program. 

I find that i don't have the time to make another test animation using this program for it, as i find i need to focus on the final animation for the film at this point in my FMP procedure. 

Another reason why this program will be useful to me for the final animation production section is that i am able to access it on the monitors in my collage and i can access it on my own laptop in my household. So i can maximise my production for the animation for both my sessions at collage and at home, which is extremely useful as i find i need to put as much time into the production of the film as it will take a considerably long time to complete.
